Introduction

A better understanding and more effective handling of diversity in the workplace have become key success factors for organizations around the world (Thomas and Ely, 1996). Due to mega-trends like increasing globalization (Rodrik, 2008;Wiersema and Bowen, 2008), the rising importance of cross-national and cross-functional work units and teams (Robinson and Dechant, 1997), and the growing labor force participation of women (Jaumotte, 2003; Juhn and Potter, 2006), workforce diversity is increasing in most organizations.
